Clench, the life of a creative, a short film by Tufilamu Pictures has been nominated for the Zanzibar International Film Festival this year.
The Short Film highlights the challenges creatives face in their pursuit of a better work environment. Clench, walks us through the trials that creatives face from the fact that their potential must be first acknowledged, then tapped in appropriate and legitimate ways before we start to see real change, not only in Kenya, but the entire African continent
Being a creative has long been perceived as a less sustainable profession compared to careers in medicine, engineering, law, etc. The word ‘Creative” collectively refers to film makers, graphic designers, Illustrators, photographers, painters, music artists, editors and much more.
This perception starts right from the grass roots of our education systems all the way to the halls of our colleges and universities. Creatives are not institutionally or legislately empowered to believe they are of great value to the society, but in reality, they play a fundamental role shaping the future economic landscapes of Africa’s states.
Directed and Produced by Mark Ayebei and casting notable names like Emmanuel Clench, Joab Omondi and Ciru Muriuki, the short film ends at a hopeful note highlighting how many creatives despite the challenges have managed to stay relevant through their passion and persistence.
Zanzibar International Film Festival is East Africa’s largest film, music and arts festival, that brings new talents together from all over the world.
This year, the festival has marked a turning point in the history and are set now to be more professional and centered on the passion. This year ZIFF will be hosting DISCOP ZANZIBAR where all the industry of Cinema, TV and digital communication will gather to boost East Africa film industry.
Under the theme, Speak Up and be Heard – Sema na Usikike, the new development will give chance to African cinema in general to be seen and heard. Cinema and arts have the courage very often to raise the voice to defend, to denounce and to provoque societies when human dignity and life is attacked and sometimes crushed under systems of power and injustice.
